The Chamber’s Energy and Sustainability Committee recently got a first-hand look at what will become EPIcenter.  The historic Mission Road Power Plant on the Mission Reach of the San Antonio River will be transformed into EPIcenter, a clean energy innovation hub.  “EPI” stands for Energy – Partnerships – Innovation.  It will feature a think tank, co-op space (incubator/established companies), fabrication laboratory, exhibit space, and conference center.  EPIcenter will:
  • Showcase a range of clean, new energy technologies through facility installations and changing exhibitions
  • Inspire new development by co-locating advancing companies from all other the world with members of the clean energy and technical community at a single facility to spur collaboration and creativity
  • Educate professionals, students and local, state, national and international communities by spotlighting great work and great thinking
  • Convene the best and brightest in the field for clean energy summits and conferences;
  • Transform a slumbering property into a gem for the emerging community surrounding it and all energy-engaged people around our globe to enjoy
  • Impact clean energy advancement globally.
EPIcenter is located on the south-end of the River Walk and will connect to the Mission Reach, the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Sites, Confluence Park, and the Lone Star Brewery. This one-of-a-kind project has an estimated cost of $74 million, and  EPIcenter expects to launch a capital campaign later this spring with an estimated completion date of 2021. Chamber members are encouraged to consider joining EPIcenter’s Power Network.  It is for anyone interested in its vision to be the hub for clean energy technology innovation, education and community engagement, and entrepreneurial incubation and ideation.  The Power Network will be a broad network of people engaged with EPIcenter’s mission and each other for networking, continuing education, support, and access to EPIcenter leadership and innovators. Chamber Members interested in joining EPIcenter’s Power Network at a 10% discount may contact Jill Vassar, Director of Development and Partnerships directly.  (Online registration does not offer the discount.)  She can be reached at jhvassar@epicenterus.org or 210-904-2682.
