Expanding on the great work of the Toyota AMT (Advanced Manufacturing Technician), TX FAME is now growing the program to include four more companies (CPS Energy, H-E-B, Takata, and Toyotetsu) and doubling the capacity of students accepted each fall at St. Philips College Southwest Campus. Now referred to as the TX FAME (Texas Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education) AMT Program, student recruitment has begun as they look for 40 individuals interested in this career pathway to start the program this fall! TX FAME will be hosting its second Open House for the community on Saturday, March 25th. You can find more information or register at: http://www.alamo.edu/spc/txfame/ TX FAME’s AMT program involves an application process with St. Philips College as well as a sponsorship with one of the participating companies. If accepted by both, participants start the program in the fall, going to school two days a week and working three days a week, immediately applying what they’re learning to what they are doing in the workplace. Students are also earning while learning, and historically, many have graduated the program debt-free with a technical associate’s degree and work experience on their resume. Technical skills learned in this program include electricity, robotics, fluid power, mechanics, programmable logic controls (PLCs), and industrial troubleshooting. Students will also learn manufacturing core exercises including safety culture, visual workplace organization, lean manufacturing, problem solving, and machine reliability. With this multi-skilled foundation, graduates could work at any company that has automated / robotic systems, which are becoming more common in various industries.
