The San Antonio Chamber team hit the polls Monday to cast their votes for the Mayoral and City Council election. Also on the ballot are some very important bond elections. The Chamber has endorsed and adopted a position statement in support of the 2017 City of San Antonio Bond Program. The $850 million bond is the largest in the city’s history and will address priority infrastructure needs and improve the quality of life for all residents. The bond consists of six propositions: Streets, Bridges & Sidewalks Improvements; Drainage & Flood Control Improvements; Parks, Recreation & Open Space Improvements; Library & Cultural Facilities Improvements; Public Safety Facilities Improvements; and Neighborhood Improvements. We encourage all residents to “Vote all six on May 6”. Most importantly, there will NOT be an increase in the City’s Property Tax Rate. By not raising taxes, we will maintain our economic competitiveness and favorable business climate.
Also on the ballot will be the $450 million bond for the Alamo Colleges District (ACD). A large portion of the bond will provide vital improvements to facilities and impact each campus of the ACD. The bond will also address the anticipated population growth and the community’s educational priorities, including the second CAST Center focused on manufacturing and construction. In addition, for members living within the boundaries of the Alamo Heights Independent School District, there will be a $135 million bond election. This program will fund the improvement of current school facilities that include safety, security, and capital maintenance projects
Finally, you will have the opportunity to elect the Mayor and members of City Council. The Chamber strongly encourages all our members to take the time to vote this election. Civic engagement and participation in the political process is vital to our community’s success. Election Day is Saturday, May 6.
