For the past years, your Chamber has sponsored the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon. This morning, we were proud to celebrate Global Running Day, hosted by the Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon series. The event featured San Antonio City Manager Sheryl Sculley, Humana TRICARE’s Dr. Sandra Delgado, and Katherine Switzer, the first woman to ever complete the Boston Marathon.
Fifty years ago, Katherine Switzer became the first woman to ever finish the Boston Marathon. Despite almost being run off the course by the race manager, Katherine prevailed. This year, Katherine ran the marathon yet again.
The Rock and Roll Marathon series is celebrating 20 Years Running, and 2017 will also mark Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon & ½ Marathon’s 10th year with the series. The run through the streets of San Antonio has become known for its famous historical landmark lined course. Runners will run by the Tower of the Americas, the Alamo, Mission Concepcion, San Fernando Cathedral and much more!
