Dr. Hankins will serve as Senior Vice President with responsibility for enhancing and growing pediatric services in coordination with the Chief Executive Officers of the U.S. and Latin American health care ministries of CHRISTUS Health System.
“Dr. Hankins will be a dynamic addition to our leadership team as we near completion of our $150 million construction project that has transformed our downtown campus into San Antonio’s first and only free-standing hospital for children and new mothers. He’s bringing a wealth of knowledge to our community and to our ministry,” said Dominic Dominguez, Chief Executive Officer, CHRISTUS Health South Texas.
“I’m excited to start this next chapter in my professional career by joining CHRISTUS. I’m also thrilled to become part of the San Antonio community with its rich heritage and culture – especially as the city kicks off its tricentennial celebration in 2018,” said Dr. Hankins. Dr. Hankins will maintain his academic appointment as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine.
As President and CMO, Dr. Hankins will be part of a newly implemented dyad leadership model at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio in which he will serve side by side with an administrative leader to guide the Hospital and its network of ambulatory care services in the community. Mr. Dominguez will serve in the administrative role on an interim basis while a nationwide search takes place to fill the position. The dyad structure has been successfully deployed in other CHRISTUS Health regions and proven to be effective in ensuring that strategy and decision-making are performed with physician and clinical guidance, as well as administrative and operational insight.
Dr. Hankins will have a matrix reporting relationship working closely with Mr. Dominguez in his leadership role for The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio and with Jeff Puckett, Chief Operating Officer for CHRISTUS Health, on the CHRISTUS Health network in the U.S. and Latin America.
