The San Antonio Chamber is excited to join forces with other supporters of military spouse hiring initiatives. Chamber VP for Military Affairs, Lori Stinson, is a military spouse and was honored to attend the kick-off event hosted at the Good Samaritan Veterans Outreach and Transition Center. The Military Spouse Professional Network was fortunate to have Texas Senator José Menéndez stop by and chat, as well as St. Phillips College President, Dr. Adena Loston.
Senator Menendez spoke of the challenges that military families face with frequent transitions and interruptions in their career paths and highlighted the additional challenges with professional licensing as military spouses move from one location to the next. He assured the attendees that he will continue to support this important issue and will continue to be a champion for hiring military spouses throughout the state. The USO and other volunteer organizations were on hand to build relationships and connect the spouses to additional resources, as well.
The Military Spouse Professional Network for Joint Base San Antonio serves as the connector and a free forum for spouses to receive mentorship, support, and career guidance. Key tools are professional development, community support, information sharing, and networking opportunities. We will continue to monitor progress on challenges for military spouses in Texas and how we can bring more attention to make for smooth transitions in careers due to military moves.
