The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, along with the City of San Antonio and Bexar County, were proud to honor Carroll Schubert (PCSI) at the Military Transformation Task Force (MTTF) meeting this past Tuesday, as he transitioned from Tri-Chair of MTTF  to another prominent position on a new Chamber Task Force, Project Ability, which will advocate for the hiring of individuals with special needs in San Antonio. Chairman of the Board Shaun Kennedy quickly identified Schubert’s invaluable expertise in this area. Schubert’s company, Professional Contract Services Inc.(PCSI), is a nonprofit that employs more than 1,600 people, most of whom have disabilities, to fulfill support service contracts valued at more than $130 million annually. PCSI integrates veterans and others with disabilities into meaningful, customer-facing jobs with competitive wages and benefits. Carroll has devoted many years volunteering on the MTTF and has been an avid supporter for business and military connections as the Chamber representative lead on the Task Force. The MTTF was originally formed to strategically plan and implement restructuring of San Antonio’s Military Bases after the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) committee recommended the closure of Brooks City Base in May 2005. The MTTF, headed by Richard Perez, then District 4 Councilman and now San Antonio Chamber President, along with Lyle Larson, in his role then as Bexar County Commissioner, and Michael Novak, former Chairman of the Board for the Chamber, was organized as an extension of the San Antonio Military Missions Task Force that existed during the BRAC round ending in 2005. The original charge of the Task Force was to help the city and county transition, accommodating important improvements of infrastructure and an increase of 13,500 people. Carroll’s efforts in engaging the business community to solve issues and advocate for vital military initiatives were instrumental in accomplishing a synergy among other members, which include representatives from Joint Base San Antonio, as well as important stakeholders within the Chamber, the City, and the County. As the work of the 2005 BRAC recommendations drew to a close, the Task Force is now in the process of reinventing itself within the space of supporting our military partners, focusing on quality of life of our service men, women, families and veterans and engaging in thoughtful discussions of strategic future mission opportunities. Chamber President, Richard Perez, will take the lead representing the Chamber as Tri-Chair, along with already standing District 10 City Councilman Clayton Perry and Bexar County Precinct 3 Commissioner Kevin Wolff.
