On Tuesday night, the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce’s SA Tech Trek came back for year two and brought thousands to downtown San Antonio for what is becoming known as one of the coolest new Fiesta events. Presented by AT&T and hosted in partnership with Geekdom and Tech Bloc, SA Tech Trek doubled in size in its second year and continued to grow the number of stops for attendees along Houston St.
This year’s Trek featured major stops at the Rand Building, the Geekdom Events Center, Scaleworks, the Vogue Building and the World Trade Center Building. After launching in year one with two major stops, the Trek grew with new entrants to the downtown Tech District, including the Scaleworks HQ and the Kadence Collective office. The organizing team estimated that the crowd more than doubled in the event’s second year and attendees were treated to more office spaces, more products, and tons more Fiesta flair.
With this year’s expansion, the event featured newcomers from both the startup community and the greater San Antonio tech ecosystem. The Geekdom Events center was a perfect example of the Trek’s growth, with activations from Air Forces Cyber, Port San Antonio, Girls, Inc., Project Quest, and UTSA. The Rand Build was once again a popular spot with four full floor activations featuring Geekdom community members such as Merge VR in addition to Google Fiber, Realco, Jungle Disk, Rivard Report, and more.
The Tech Bloc party moved to the new Scaleworks headquarters, which featured engagements with many of their portfolio companies, as well as a chance for Trekkers to experience the AT&T mobile entertainment truck. New market disrupter Blue Duck Scooters also joined the Trek this year and offered free rides on their dockless, electric scooters up and down Houston St. Codeup and Easy Expunctions highlighted the Vogue Building stop, which showcased the training programs and coding courses that are training future tech employees for San Antonio companies. Another new building entering the Trek this year was the World Trade Center, with Kadence Collective throwing a major Fiesta bash, highlighting their new downtown office space.
“As the Tech District continues to grow, SA Tech Trek provides the perfect way to engage a broader San Antonio audience that is interested in the innovation coming out of downtown San Antonio,” said Will Garrett, Director of CyberSecurity San Antonio for the San Antonio Chamber. “Even though it is just in year two, this event has quickly become a favorite and unique new outing that brings together a new part of San Antonio with the long-standing tradition that is Fiesta.”
Special thanks to local radio station 99.5 KISS who set up a remote broadcast to entertain our crowds.
