The heritage-rich and future-focused East campus of Blue Skies of Texas retirement community was the setting of our meeting on April 26.  Darrell Jones, Lieutenant General, USAF (Ret), President and CEO of Blue Skies of Texas, welcomed the Board, explained the facility’s history as Air Force Village, and discussed how the residence is now open to all retired seniors. During the meeting, Diane Rath, Executive Director of Alamo Area Council of Governments, updated attendees on ozone designation for the San Antonio area and requested board members submit comments to the EPA. The Board voted unanimously to approve a letter that will be sent from the Chamber to the EPA. In addition, Randy Walker, Owner of Randy Walker and Company, presented the annual audit review, and Dr. Burnie Roper, Superintendent of Lackland Independent School District, presented information about the Impact Aid program. The board approved the audit and a letter from the Chamber to the Texas Congressional Delegation expressing Impact Aid Support and Opposition to HR5199 and S.2517. Finally, Jennifer Cantu, SVP, San Antonio Market Manager Enterprise Business and Community Engagement, Bank of America and Chair of the Chamber’s Education and Workforce Council, presented a position statement in favor of the Northside Independent School District bond program, which was unanimously approved by the Board.
