This past Thursday, your San Antonio Chamber of Commerce partnered with U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar to host an ICE Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers (IMAGE) program training with Special Agent, Joe Martinez. The program is aimed at ensuring businesses are following proper hiring practices and complying with immigration laws and policies. “We are a country of laws, and we want to ensure our businesses are following the laws,” said Richard Perez, President and CEO of the Chamber. Special Agent Martinez provided business leaders in the room with training on proper hiring procedures, fraudulent document detection, and use of the E-Verify employment eligibility verification program. Martinez talked about what to expect during a worksite inspection and highlighted recent changes to immigration law and policies. Attendees received copies of properly filled out I-9 forms to help with proper hiring procedures. If you missed the event, ICE can come to your place of business and provide the same training at your request. The program is free of charge to businesses and can be easily tailored to your organization to develop a more secure and stable workforce. As part of the program, ICE will meet with and provide your organization the necessary training and education on proper hiring procedures, fraudulent document detection, use of the E-verify employment eligibility verification program and the Social Security Number Verification Service. We would like to thank Congressman Cuellar and his staff for helping to coordinate this very important training for our members. The Chamber will continue to work to provide other helpful training and workshops that will help propel business success.
