On Thursday, June 21, your Chamber will celebrate five incredible women who make San Antonio a better place to live, work, and play. This year’s Tribute to Women Business Leaders Legacy Award honoree is the amazing, inspirational, and incredible Edith McAllister, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday! The Tribute to Women Business Leaders honorees each exemplify business practices and principles that are championed by Ford Motor Company and the San Antonio Chamber. A $1,000 scholarship will be donated to the college/university of the award recipient’s choice in her name, and each of the women will be recognized at the Awards Luncheon on June 21 at the Marriott Rivercenter from 11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Registration information can be found on the Chamber’s website. Edith McAllister is a civic and community leader who is also an accomplished dancer, a gracious entertainer, and an animal lover. She is a remarkable fund-raiser/problem solver/trustee for a long list of community organizations, including the San Antonio Art League, the San Antonio Symphony, the Battle of Flowers Association, the Children’s Service Bureau, and the San Antonio Art Institute, to name a few. She is a founder of the Southwest Craft Center (Southwest School of Art) and its Club Giraud; a founder of the Cancer Therapy and Research Center, now part of the UT Health Science Center; and the founding chairman of the advisory board for the Center for Medical Humanities and Ethics. She also served on the Centennial Commission for UT-Austin and was the Vice Chairman of the UTSA Development Board for 20 years.  At her busiest, Edith served simultaneously on 22 boards, and she has been honored countless times by local groups.
