With many critical and controversial issues facing our city, this is a precarious time for San Antonio. That is why it is urgently important that you make your voice heard by hitting the polls this November. We can expect to see some key local, state and congressional races on the ballot as well as those fire union charter amendments that pose a very real and serious threat on our local government and would have detrimental effects on our economy. But the first step is getting registered to vote in Bexar County. If you haven’t done so, your San Antonio Chamber team can help.
This week, the Chamber team attended a Texas Volunteer Deputy Registrar training held at the Bexar County Elections Department. “Our vote is the most powerful instrument we have in making our country and community a better place to live and work. If we as a Chamber can mobilize the community by simply making it easier for residents to vote and get access to information, then we are ready and willing to do so. Encouraging my staff to get deputized is just the first step” said Richard Perez, President and CEO.
The Chamber will officially launch a 2018 Voter Engagement Plan in August. Our mission is to engage, inform and increase voter participation for years to come. The plan will allow members to partner with the Chamber, making it easier for your employees, family members, friends and colleagues to participate in the political process. Education and access are the key components of the program.
The Chamber believes civic engagement and participation in the political process is vital to our community’s success. Anyone interested in getting registered to vote in Bexar County can stop by the Chamber’s downtown office Monday – Friday between 8:30am-5:00pm. It is our goal to help ensure we have a true representation of the people of Bexar County at all levels of government.
We encourage you to strongly consider becoming a Volunteer Deputy Registrar and help register your colleagues, friends and family members. If you are interested in in becoming a Volunteer Deputy Registrar, visit the Bexar County Elections website for a list or qualifications and training times.
