As one of our community’s principal economic development drivers, CPS Energy and those select individuals charged with its governance play an indispensable role in San Antonio’s collective and long-term success. Selecting exceptionally qualified individuals with solid business experience to serve on the CPS Board of Trustees is therefore imperative as the policy decisions they are charged with will keep our municipal government financially strong, keep rates competitive, and keep the utility on the cutting edge of innovation and at the forefront of the new energy economy.
CPS Energy is currently accepting applications from residents who are eligible to serve and who live in the Southwest Quadrant 4 for an upcoming vacancy on its Board of Trustees. Dr. Homer Guevara currently serves as the Trustee for this Quadrant, and his term will end on January 31, 2019.
The CPS Energy Board sets policy and works with management to oversee the operation of the nation’s largest municipally owned energy company providing natural gas and electric service. The CPS Energy Board of Trustees is comprised of citizens representing four geographical quadrants of the CPS Energy service territory. Board members serve for a term of five (5) years and are eligible to serve an additional term. The mayor of San Antonio is an ex-officio member.
The Southwest Quadrant 4 includes the general areas south of Culebra and Grissom Roads and west of IH-35 South from Downtown San Antonio to State Highway 16 and west of U.S. Highway 281.The primary San Antonio City Council Districts represented in the quadrant include City Council Districts 4, 5, and 6, with partial overlap into Districts 1, 3, and 7. Members of the Board must be United States citizens, and must reside in Bexar County within the quadrant they represent. Members of the Board, except the mayor, receive annual compensation in the amount of $2,000.
Regular Board Meetings are typically held on the last Monday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room on the first floor of CPS Energy’s Main Office Building located at 145 Navarro. Additional time requirements for the Board include quarterly committee meetings and, as needed, group and individual work sessions.
