Did you know that there is a special election for Texas State Senate District 19? Make sure to hit the polls and cast your vote! Governor Greg Abbott recently announced that the special election to fill the vacant seat previously held by Senator Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio) is set for July 31. Early voting starts Monday, July 16 and runs through Friday, July 27. Eight candidates are vying for the opportunity to represent Senate District 19. District 19 covers all or part of 17 counties, with three-fifths of its voters concentrated in Bexar County, and the remainder spread across 16 largely rural and semi-rural counties south and west of the Alamo City. Candidates on the ballot include:
  • Pete Gallego - Democratic Party
  • State Rep. Roland Gutierrez – Democratic Party
  • Tomas Uresti – Democratic Party
  • Charlie Urbina Jones - Democratic Party
  • Carlos Antonio Raymond - Republican Party
  • Jesse (Jay) Alaniz - Republican Party
  • Peter P. (Pete) Flores - Republican Party
  • Tony Valdivia - Libertarian Party
Nearly 156,000 Bexar County residents voted in the March primary election. While that is a large number, it only represents 14.6 % of registered voters in our county. More importantly, the low voter turnout will not be an accurate reflection of the will of the people. The Chamber strongly encourages you, your friends, family and colleagues to get out and vote. Early voting continues every day from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. until Friday, July 27. On July 31, polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. but you must vote in your precinct.
