please watch these messages from our 2018 Chairman of the Board, Shaun Kennedy and our President and CEO, Richard Perez:
On Wednesday, the 4th Court of Appeals denied a request from the Secure San Antonio’s Future PAC to block three charter amendments from appearing on the November 6 ballot. The PAC plans to continue the appeal process moving to the Texas Supreme Court.
In response to the 4th Court of Appeals denial, the San Antonio Chamber released the following statement from President and CEO Richard Perez:
While we are disappointed that the 4th court of appeals denied Secure San Antonio’s Future Political Action Committee’s request to block the three charter amendments from being added to the November 6 ballot, the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce is not backing down from our opposition to defeat all three proposed charter amendments. Simply put, they do not put San Antonio first but rather put San Antonio on a path to gridlock by ballot initiative, tie our hands in relation to municipal talent attraction, and completely remove San Antonio citizen’s voice from the fire union negotiating table thereby setting-up the real possibility that public safety costs will overtake the 2/3 of the General Fund budget. Translation: increased taxes and fewer services
The business community and the community at large must now come together and ensure that all voters fully understand the negative and substantial impact of Propositions A, B, and C on our growing economy. If these charter amendments pass, we are looking at significant, tangible, and detrimental effects, including diminished economic development and job growth as a result of municipal government instability and uncertainty. Translation: Our quality of life that we have worked hard to develop as a community in is real jeopardy.
In an effort to increase public awareness, the Chamber has teamed up with Secure San Antonio’s Future to spread the word about the GO Vote NO campaign. On September 8, at La Villita, Secure San Antonio’s Future will hold their GO Vote NO Community Kick-Off event beginning at 9:15 a.m. We encourage everyone to attend this rally and learn about the very real effects these propositions will have if they are passed in November.
