On September 13, Volaris and Frontier Airlines held a celebration of a codeshare agreement, providing more options for travelers between Mexico and the United States. This is the first codeshare agreement of its kind, between two ultra-low cost carriers. Through this alliance, Volaris customers can now enjoy destinations in the US, and Frontier customers will have the opportunity to now travel to Mexico. There are currently eight connecting points, seven in the US and one in Mexico. Volaris now offers travel to 53 destinations across the US, and Frontier will have 18 new destinations in Mexico.
The Vice President of Volaris Holger Blankenstein and the CEO and General Director of Frontier Barry Biffle celebrated the announcement by cutting a ceremonial ribbon. Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Russ Handy, Aviation Director at the San Antonio Airport, welcomed the collaboration here in San Antonio, which strengthens the ties between our countries. The mayor stated, “The commemoration at the San Antonio International Airport is an indication that we recognize that national and international competiveness comes from the ability to innovate and adapt”.
