Did you know that in 1910, San Antonio became the birthplace of military aviation? Did you know that the new $3.9 billion Air Force One planes will now be built by Boeing in San Antonio? You have likely heard both of these statements, but what is not well known is how our aerospace industry stacks up against other communities across the country. The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce contracted with emsi in early 2018, to assess the capabilities of the aerospace industry in the San Antonio region. The focal points for the assessment are workforce readiness and availability, assets of the local industry, comparability to other aerospace clusters across the country, and opportunities for growth. Later this year, the Chamber will release this data, so be on the lookout for additional information on the event details. The Chamber’s Aerospace Committee is the only organization of its kind in our region that gathers to discuss and work on issues to grow the industry, highlight its capabilities, and advocate for its needs. Tyler Schroeder, Manager of State and Local Government Operations for The Boeing Company, is the 2018-2019 chair the committee.
