The City of San Antonio’s Office of Sustainability is now accepting nominations for its third annual SA Tomorrow Sustainability Awards. The award honors businesses and organizations that showcase breakthroughs and innovations using the three pillars of sustainability – social, economic and environmental. The deadline for nominations has been extended to Friday, November 2nd, 2018. Nomination forms are available for download below. “The SA Tomorrow Sustainability Awards are a great way to highlight some of the great work going on in San Antonio,” Chief Sustainability Officer Doug Melnick said. “In order to make the vision of a sustainable and climate-ready San Antonio a reality, we need local, innovative solutions that we can all learn from.” The SA Tomorrow Sustainability Awards honor programs, projects and building structures that promote sustainability and engagement with San Antonio residents and their surroundings. The awards also spotlight the City’s SA Tomorrow initiative, which plans for the San Antonio area to grow by another one million residents by 2040. Each category covers projects that support the goals of the SA Tomorrow Plan in the areas of energy; food systems; green buildings and infrastructure; land use and transportation; natural resources; public health; and solid waste resources. “The Awards promote competition to design and build better projects by thinking outside the box,” said Juan Fernandez, 2017 SA Tomorrow Sustainability Awards winner. “Winning an award is the result of having a great planning, design and construction team that gives companies a competitive edge, and submitting is a great way to showcase projects and to learn about other great projects in the city.” Organizations can submit nominations in the following categories:
  • New commercial and residential construction and retrofit projects
  • Sustainable programs and initiatives
  • Industry leaders in sustainability (organizational and individual practitioners)
  • Solar projects
