The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Upgrade, a program under the San Antonio Education Partnership, in launching the Bridging the Talent Gap (BTTG) survey, and Chamber President and CEO Richard Perez encourages all business to participate. The goal of the survey is to gather key information for a comprehensive view of the talent hiring and retention challenges our business community faces and to understand the education levels businesses need among their employees to propel their success.
San Antonio’s low unemployment level is a sign of our economic health, but it also places increasing pressure on employers to identify and retain talent at all skill levels. This BTTG survey will shed light on the critical components employers and education/training programs need to cultivate to attract top talent to fuel our economic prosperity and compete on the global stage. Survey responses will lead to a San Antonio-specific report of the skill and education gaps by industry sector as well as identify recruitment and workforce challenges.
The Chamber has been a long-time champion of education and workforce development initiatives. This survey will inform the Chamber’s advocacy and programming with the goal of effectively impacting the education and skills gaps that strain local employers.
All businesses and organizations, small to large, are affected by the quality of workforce talent pools and pipelines. This is precisely why employer participation in the BTTG survey is critical. The only way significant and informative results will be achieved is with a minimum of 300 respondents. The survey closes December 10, 2018.
The Chamber calls on all human resource managers and department leaders to be a part of fortifying workforce development initiatives by completing the BTTG survey.
This survey has been administered to 1900 employers across the country. San Antonio is one of three Texas cities invited to participate in the Bridging the Talent Gap national effort. Corpus Christi and Austin are the others. Each cities’ responses will be combined, analyzed and the findings reported only in their aggregate form. An event announcing the findings with data visualizations will be scheduled in Spring 2019.
Bridging the Talent Gap is an initiative of the Graduate Network, a nationally recognized effort to increase postsecondary attainment among adults.
H-E-B, City of San Antonio Economic Development Department, the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, SA Works, and the San Antonio Women’s and LGBT Chambers of Commerce are also partners in promoting participation in the BTTG survey.
