On Monday, your Chamber’s Cybersecurity Industry Council meeting was hosted by leadership of the San Antonio Police Department at their Public Safety Headquarters. Assistant Police Chief Anthony Trevino welcomed the Council to the Public Safety Headquarters, where over 65 members of the cybersecurity ecosystem received a briefing from the Southwest Texas Fusion Center (SWTFC). The Southwest Texas Fusion Center is the regional fusion center that serves as an all threat/all hazard center for information/intelligence sharing and public safety through a process of collaboration with other regional and national partners. Inside the Public Safety Headquarters, the SWTFC manages a Tactical Intelligence Operations Center, a Regional Intelligence Unit as well as Fusion Support and Analysis for crime in the counties it supports. The Council then heard a presentation from the President of the Alamo Chapter of AFCEA, Rick Lipsey. Lipsey briefed the Council on the mission and ongoing work of Alamo AFCEA as well as their upcoming Alamo ACE Conference.  Alamo ACE will bring together over 1,500 defense cyber and intelligence leaders at the La Cantera Resort in San Antonio from November 5-8th. The theme for this year’s Alamo ACE is “The Next Frontier – Transforming Enterprise Ops to Multi-Domain Ops” and AFCEA is focused on providing attendees access and insight to senior leaders’ perspective on current and future developments in defense cyberspace. The Council then heard a presentation from Dr. Mina Guirguis, Professor of Computer Science at Texas State University regarding his work at the Intelligent Security Group and desire to collaborate with industry on research projects. The work of the intelligent Security Group is built upon the interplay of security, networks and stochastic control with research contributions in the areas of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), Networks and Computing Systems, and Mobile Cloud Computing. During a packed agenda for the October Council meeting, members also received a post-event recap on the widely successful Texas Cyber Summit that was held in San Antonio mid-October, as well as a brief overview of the newly launched Ghostwire Academy which is training youth in tech and cybersecurity skills. The Cybersecurity Council is the driving force behind CyberSecurity San Antonio, and your Chamber needs you to get involved.  To get involved, contact Will Garrett (wgarrett@sachamber.org) or Amanda Keammerer (akeammerer@sachamber.org).
