Following a year of planning, the Alliance of American Football (AAF) will host the first games of its inaugural season on February 9, 2019. Earlier this year, the AAF announced that Military City USA would become the home of the San Antonio Commanders. Both the team’s name and logo pay homage to San Antonio’s longstanding military presence. The Commanders will kick off their first home opener at the Alamodome under the leadership of Head Coach Mike Riley.

Since its inception the league has garnered much attention, received a contract with CBS, secured an apparel deal, and formed eight teams scattered across the country. Although it is considered a professional football league, the goal of the AAF is to ready and prepare prospects to move up to the NFL.
