Last Thursday, your Chamber hosted its 124th Annual Gala. More than 700 attendees gathered in the Hemisfair Ballroom at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center to help honor our 2018 Chair Shaun Kennedy and celebrate another year of achievements and success at the Chamber. From beginning to end, it was a night of excitement, entertainment, and celebration. Click here to view pictures of the event.
As guests entered the ballroom, they were greeted and directed to their seats by students from the Bridge Program at The Academy at Morgan’s Wonderland. Earlier this year, Shaun and the Chamber hosted the Project Ability Summit, which brought more than 100 business, government agencies, nonprofit and education leaders to discuss ways to strengthen San Antonio’s workforce by recruiting and employing individuals from the Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled community. The students in the Bridge Program are being taught work skills and will be actively seeking employment.
During his remarks, Shaun reviewed the Chamber’s 2018 priorities, beginning with Transformational Collaboration, which launched in January and brought key business and civic leaders together quarterly to engage on issues and opportunities impacting our community. He also touched on the success of the Project Ability task force and the Project Ability Summit and talked about the formation of the B2B Disability Consortium to lead meaningful and ongoing engagement among employers around disability hiring initiatives. During this time, he invited the students from the Bridge Program to join him on stage to be recognized, and he encouraged the audience to learn from the students’ eagerness and excitement. Shaun also recognized each Chamber Council’s 2018 accomplishments.
As his speech concluded, Shaun welcomed 2019 Chair Paula Gold-Williams to the stage and handed off the official Chamber gavel. Paula provided the audience with remarks that touched on her love of San Antonio, her hopes for the future of the City, and the excitement she has for 2019, as she begins her term as Chamber Chair. Her speech was followed by the introduction of her leadership team, which included a variety of business professionals and community leaders from across the city.
Following remarks from our Chair and Chair-elect, Chamber President and CEO Richard Perez joined Shaun and Paula on stage to raffle off a 2019 Toyota Tacoma, and John Keenan of Joeris Construction was the lucky winner! of a brand new 2019 Toyota Tacoma. The gala concluded and was followed by the President’s After Party, where guests could continue to mix, mingle, and dance to music provided by DJ Freddie Washington.
On behalf of the entire San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Family, we would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who attended our 2018 Annual Gala! Special thanks to our generous sponsors, whose support made the evening possible:
