Last week, the Chamber hosted the Bexar County Delegation for a legislative briefing of the Chamber’s 2019 State Legislative Agenda. This briefing provided our legislative members and their staffs a unique opportunity to understand the top legislative priorities of the San Antonio business community, which include opposing infringement on private employers’ rights, preserving key economic development tools, funding to address Bexar County’s non-attainment status, and public-school finance reform to name a few. The Delegation was given the opportunity to ask questions and understand the process for developing the state legislative agenda. Following the briefing, there was discussion about how Chamber members could be helpful in supporting legislators when proposing meaningful legislation. Lawmakers highlighted the need for data, letters of support, and testimonials during the legislative session. This briefing lays the groundwork for the upcoming legislative session as we work with the delegation to address the complex policy issues facing our state. The Chamber wants to remain the primary resource when the delegation evaluates legislation and seeks input from business stakeholders. The meeting concluded with a reminder about ¡VIVA San Antonio! set for March 5, 2019. Our Delegation and their staffs are excited for the 2019 day-long trip as it allows them an opportunity to hear directly from business leaders.
