What do wind turbines, drones, and weather radars have in common? They are all top of mind for Texas military leaders focused on training, security, and technology. Hosted by the Texas Military Preparedness Commission (TMPC), the Texas Military Summit convened military leaders to brief the crowded room on recent activities and report findings.
The Summit featured speakers from the military, industry, government, and academia, including:
- Kevin Pottinger, Chair of the TMPC
- Texas State Senator Donna Campbell
- Representative Dan Flynn
- Brigadier General Scott Efflandt from Fort Hood
- Captain Jonathan Townsend, representing the Texas Commanders Council
As part of the program, Executive Director Keith Graf delivered information on DEAAG funding, Army Futures Command, and the first major command change since 1973, and Dr. Annette Sobel guided the audience through the Texas Military Value Task Force report findings. Keith Sledd, Chair of the Governor’s Committee to Support the Military, discussed expanding the definition of encroachment, and equivalency versus reciprocity for families PCS’ing.
The afternoon wrapped up with briefings on aviation encroachment from USAF Air Education and Training Command via Colonel Lendy Renegar, a military encroachment and wind energy study update by Tony Parisi from Texas A&M NRI, and an overview of the defense industry in Texas from Tony Bennett of the Texas Association of Manufacturers.
