In 2017, The Texas Workforce Commission began a statewide initiative to offset the cost to employers associated with mentoring, training and integrating students with disabilities into the workplace. More than 600 Texas employers participated enabling more than 1000 students with disabilities paid work experience. This year they have expanded the program and are asking for your support.
Service offerings at no additional cost:
- Employees for short-term projects (approximately 5-8 weeks)
- Wages and Workers Compensation paid directly to participants
- Reasonable accommodations provided
- Additional on-the-job training if needed
- Site visits to monitor participants and ensure your satisfaction
Employers must:
- Agree to provide at least 20 hours of work per week
- Overtime, vacation, sick and holiday hours are not paid
- Maintain time & attendance records on program participants
- Provide job-related skills and training
- Complete performance evaluation(s)
