The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce continues its long-standing commitment to educational attainment and student success by signing a compact with UP Partnership’s Diplomás initiative.  The compact is a pledge to dedicate time, talent and resources toward the Diplomás collective impact effort to increase educational attainment and quality of life of San Antonio’s Latinx youth across systems. Through thoughtful and inclusive dialogues, Diplomás identified three areas of focus to move the needle on Latinx student success:
  1. Policy and vertical alignment for equitable access to dual credit opportunities;
  2. Streamlining available resources to students with a focus on the college admissions process; and
  3. Increasing access to existing test prep resources.
“Diplomás is a sterling example of an initiative that’s driven by data and deep understanding of the link between San Antonio’s economic prosperity and Latinx student success,” explained Richard Perez, CEO of the San Antonio Chamber. “We are proud to show our commitment to ensuring every student gets the education they need to fully participate, contribute, and influence our city’s growth.” As part of the commitment, Lisa Marie Gomez, VP of Education and Workforce Development at the Chamber, serves as co-chair of the Diplomás core team.  “The strength of Diplomás is the group’s deep understanding of system change which allows our efforts to be laser focused on actions that support students and help families successfully navigate through postsecondary options,” Gomez said in regard to working with the group.  Gomez will serve a two-year term as co-chair with Liz Ozuna, Executive Director of Advanced Academics & Post-Secondary Initiatives at SAISD.  For more information about Diplomás visit: https://uppartnership.org/diplomas/
