The Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio is seeking to help worthy nonprofit organizations that are working to meet the health care needs of residents of San Antonio and surrounding counties. “Our community members need help across disciplines and within a broad spectrum of health care needs that could include physical or mental well-being or even spiritual health,” said Cody Knowlton, president and CEO of the Foundation. Trustees plan to grant more than $6 million in 2019 to area nonprofits that can demonstrate such a mission. Nonprofits can apply for one of two types of grants, the Responsive Grant and the Community Impact Grant. Each grant has a separate application process. Letters of Inquiry for Responsive Grants – those seeking funds of $25,000 or more – should provide information about the organization, its stated mission, and the nature of the request. The Foundation began accepting Letters of Inquiry on April 5 and the deadline to submit is noon on May 31. To be considered for a Community Impact grant – those seeking $7,500 or less –  applicants, such as churches, grass-root organizations and small 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations that help meet the health and wellness needs of their communities, are strongly encouraged to apply. The application period for the Community Impact Grants opens on May 15 and closes at noon on July 31. “The Foundation offers these grants as a way to help nonprofits have greater impact,” Knowlton said. “We know nonprofits both big and small help shore up the gaps in available health care and we want to contribute to those efforts.” Funds awarded to nonprofits should support a project or program that serves residents in the Foundation’s eight-county geographic area—Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina and Wilson. The Foundation is only able to consider one request per organization per year, and organizations should have at least one full year of operating history. Since the Foundation began making grants in 2005, it has awarded over 1,000 grants totaling nearly $76 million to organizations in Bexar and surrounding counties. Details regarding the submission process for both grants can be found on the Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio’s website: www.bhfsa.org.
