President and CEO Richard Perez and members of the Chamber team voted on the first day of early voting Election season is upon us once again in San Antonio! Early voting for the mayoral runoff and City Council Districts 2, 4, and 6 started Tuesday, May 28. Early voting will extend until Tuesday, June 4, and  Election Day is Saturday, June 8. Voter turnout for the May 4 election was low. Only 11.47 percent of eligible voters hit the polls. That means nearly 88 percent of residents sat on the sideline and did not make their voice heard. We can do better, San Antonio. Low voter turnout undermines our democracy and is not a true representation of the electorate. Every election is important, because you are making your voice heard. Many individuals tend to ignore local elections and focus on midterm and presidential elections. Let it be known – local elections are just as important. Many of the decisions being made at the local level directly impact you. If you care about the future of your city and neighborhoods, go out and vote. Each and every vote counts. Now is the time to make your voice heard and help elect the candidates you feel will move this city in the right direction.
