While cases of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) have been limited in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are urging businesses and families to start preparing for the possibility of a bigger outbreak.  While there is still much to learn about this virus, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC),  the Texas Department of State Health Services, and the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District are all excellent resources businesses and families can turn to when looking for more information on the virus and what they can do in response to this emerging public health threat. As a reminder, it is still flu and respiratory disease season, and flu activity continues to be high in our community. The CDC recommends getting a flu vaccine, taking antivirals if prescribed, and taking everyday preventative actions to stop the spread of germs, including:
  • Voluntary Home Isolation: Stay home when you are sick with respiratory disease symptoms.
  • Respiratory Etiquette: Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw it in the trash can.
  • Hand Hygiene: Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with 60%-95% alcohol.
  • Environmental Health Action: Routinely clean frequently touched surfaces and objects
The Chamber will continue to monitor the news and advice coming from the CDC, DSHS, and San Antonio Metro Health and share information as it becomes available.
