As our city continues to battle COVID-19 and keep our economy together, Leadership San Antonio (LSA) Class 45 (aka LSA2020) was prepared to roll up our sleeves and do our part.  As a team we hold ourselves to a few key values: we are one team, there are no excuses and we will create a transformative leadership experience; its why our tagline for this year is “Legacy. Service. Action.” But, in true LSA fashion, nothing would be quite as fun as a friendly competition. So that is exactly what we did. On April 11, 2020, LSA2020 launched “We Buy Local” Competition. This was a healthy competition between our seven teams to see who could support San Antonio the most by buying from our small local businesses. Well, we can’t say we were too surprised, during week 1 LSA2020 began strong with 58 unique purchases from 54 individual businesses. However, it was not until week 2 that the competition started to heat up and we saw our “Be Mobile” Team take this event to a new level. In week 2, LSA2020 increased our reach by more than 50%. Since launching this competition LSA2020 has made our stay-at-home order a mission of engagement, comradery, and supporting our city. As a program of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, supporting small business and the San Antonio economy has been at the forefront our team discussions, and LSA2020 accepted this challenge with open arms. The last week of the competition was nothing short of amazing. Overall, LSA2020 completed 250 transactions supporting 167 unique businesses in San Antonio. With an average purchase of $45, our class put over $11,000 back into the economy to keep San Antonio and our region alive. We want to say congratulations to our winners “Be Mobile,” who alone contributed 30% of the total spend to the competition. They truly embodied our tagline of “Legacy. Service. Action.” Although our competition has ended, we want to challenge all of San Antonio to support our local business owners. We cannot do this alone. WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER!
