On Tuesday, the United States Senate voted to extend the deadline to apply for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) to August 8th, just hours before it was set to expire. The bill was sent to the House where it was similarly passed by unanimous consent. The Chamber was joined by 14 other San Antonio non-profit trade organizations in sending a letter to the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Chairman Marco Rubio and Ranking Member Ben Cardin asking for an extension to the program. We also requested that they deem our non-profit organizations eligible to apply for PPP, which was designed to turn loans into grants if employers retained their workforce. More than 4.8 million businesses have been approved for the program, but $130 billion in funding remain unused.
