In 2019, San Antonio became one of the communities selected by the New American Economy (NAE) and Welcoming America as a Gateways for Growth community, receiving research on the impact immigrants have on the local economy. Since then, the Chamber and the city of San Antonio Immigration Liaison have been hard at work developing a plan to make San Antonio the most welcoming community for immigrant workers and international newcomers.
Immigration has made this country strong since its very inception, and few cities know this better than San Antonio. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, foreign born individuals make up roughly one in seven residents and bring an array of skills and perspectives to the local economy’s workforce and leadership.
Over the course of two years, we have met, discussed, listened, and documented the best way to take this opportunity and create something special for San Antonio and its newcomers. We’re immensely grateful for all our members and community partners who got the plan to this point.
Now with a plan in hand, we invite you and your business to join our welcoming plan and help implement our ambitious project. But before you do, feel free to read our full report on the welcoming plan. Click here to learn more and join the team.
