The Chamber Aerospace Committee met on Thursday and had some great discussion fostered by two thought-provoking speakers. Chairman Dick Francey first welcomed Ms. Katherine Sanchez-Rocha, Executive Director of Alamo Academies. Katherine shared where her organization was going with Alamo Academies 2.0, following a comprehensive review of the program and engagement with stakeholders. The discussion focused on education and workforce development in San Antonio’s aerospace industry and ways to further collaboration between education and training entities and the business community.
Following a great discussion about the aerospace workforce, Tyler Schroeder provided an update to the committee focused on last week’s VIVA San Antonio program. Tyler reviewed the Chamber’s aerospace legislative priorities and described the aerospace issue team’s engagement with state lawmakers. Aligning with the San Antonio business community’s priorities, discussions with lawmakers centered on tax incentives, education and training, and the Kelly Field recapitalization effort. Visits with leaders in both the House and Senate were fruitful with lawmakers supporting legislation in all focus areas.
The next Aerospace Committee meeting will be on May 13 at 3:30 p.m.
