Dear Chamber Members and Partners, [caption id="attachment_36882" align="alignleft" width="228"] Charlie Cheever (1928 - 2021)[/caption] The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the business community are extremely saddened by the news of local business legend Charlie Cheever’s passing. Charlie was the Chamber’s Chair in 1988 and worked tirelessly for the organization, business community, and San Antonio in general. During his tenure at the helm of the organization, the Chamber created San Antonio Sports to develop and attract national amateur and professional sporting events to San Antonio and secured funding for the new 450-bed Brooke Army Medical Center hospital. In addition, as a testament to his belief in the importance of education, we established San Antonio Education Partnership to promote excellence in academics and attendance in our public schools and helped secure doctoral programs in engineering, biology, and computer science at UTSA during his Chairmanship. Besides being a tremendous leader, fundraiser, and generous philanthropist, Charlie was a genuinely kind and thoughtful person who built strong and sincere relationships. He was always a pleasure to be around, and his enthusiasm is to be admired, appreciated, and imitated. His impact on our community is profound, and we will miss his leadership, his support, and his friendship. Please join me in saying a prayer for Charlie and the Cheever family. Richard Perez, President & CEO
