The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce’s Woman to Woman, Leader to Leader (WWLL) Committee held a special event at the Red Berry Estate with featured guest Haley Carter, United States Marine Corps officer, retired American professional soccer player and former assistant coach for the Afghanistan Women’s National football team. Attendees were honored to hear Haley’s brave story of evacuating the women soccer players from Afghanistan earlier this year. The event was sponsored by the RK Group, Lighthouse for the Blind, and Angie Salinas, Major General, USMC (Retired), and guests included more than 60 women business and military leaders from throughout the San Antonio area.

“Haley was a perfect guest for our group.  The story about the women from Afghanistan was inspiring and overwhelming. We learned of the courage they found to play soccer in spite of the risks and the growth in trust and empowerment they found from the coaches.  All of this led to their incredible evacuation from Afghanistan.  She is a true hero,” said Johnette Lee (San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind), 2021 WWLL Co-Chair.

The WWLL mission continues to be to connect women leaders in order to authentically deepen relationships through engagement while creating opportunities to help emerging women leaders of the future. The committee is a forum for women Chamber business members to share their insights into uplifting the unique challenges experienced by women business and military leaders while also providing an avenue for mentorship, friendship, and comradery.
