Your San Antonio Chamber of Commerce was proud to host its 3rd annual Women in the Military Breakfast, attended by more than 100 guests who were eager to celebrate the important role women continue to play in our nation’s Armed Forces, especially throughout the Alamo Region. As one of only 11 states nationwide, Texas commemorates June 12th as Women Veterans Day, in recognition of the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act of 1945, and in an effort to make our communities aware of the great value women provide to the defense, security, and protection of our country. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Texas has roughly 177,500 women veterans. This is the largest number of women veterans of any state. These women are our neighbors, friends, coworkers, business, and community leaders.
This year’s breakfast opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by girls from Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas and included panelists from Joint Base San Antonio:
- LTC Adriana R Ramirez-Scott, Battalion Commander, US Army Recruiting Battalion San Antonio
- CMSgt Casy D. Boomershine, Command Chief, 502d ABW and Joint Base San Antonio
- Sgt Maj Monica Cervantes, Marine Recruiting Station San Antonio
Opening remarks were made by Navy veteran and presenting sponsor Booz Allen Hamilton’s Senior Lead Technologist, Duvelza Saenz.
“The panelists’ messages showcased leadership, diversity, resiliency, and grit. Their relatable stories and advice easily allowed a younger generation and community members to see opportunities and success at high levels,” said Grant Hegner, Lead Associate for Military and Veteran Affairs, Corporate Affairs, at Booz Allen Hamilton. “It was a chance not only to celebrate their success, but to understand the need to continue their important mission and be inclusive as we all build for tomorrow.”
“The Chamber is always honored to highlight the unique experiences of our military service members. Giving a voice to our women veterans continues to be important, as we seek to support them in and out of uniform year-round,” relayed Lori Stinson, San Antonio Chamber of Commerce’s Vice President for Military Affairs and Leadership Development.
