Your Chamber held its monthly Cybersecurity Council meeting last Wednesday at the Chamber’s Northside Business Center to discuss relevant workforce solutions and the growing need for industry partnerships. Introduced by Council Chair Larry Hurtado, Founder of Evanesco Inc., the meeting featured a presentation by Mike Ramsey, Executive Director of Workforce Development for the City of San Antonio. Following Mr. Ramsey’s presentation, Cacie Madrid, VP of Public Policy at the SA Chamber, provided an overview of the state legislative agenda formulation process and reviewed the timeline the Chamber is hoping to adhere to.
During his presentation, Mr. Ramsey provided a program overview of the Ready to Work initiative, answered questions about how cyber companies can tap into the talent pipeline created through Ready to Work, and covered how employers can take the pledge to become Ready to Work partners. He also highlighted the program’s unprecedented scale and community involvement, positioning San Antonio as a national leader in workforce development training. Additionally, he elaborated on Ready to Work’s Talent Pipeline Management model, an initiative put forth by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Ben Peavy, Managing Director for Accenture Federal Services and Chair of Ready to Work’s Advisory Board, echoed the program’s uniqueness and stressed the importance of private sector investment into the city’s workforce to ensure continued economic growth.

During the community updates section of the meeting, Rick Lipsey of Leidos briefed the council on initiatives put forward by the Cyber Texas Foundation to assist the Uvalde community. On June 23, Cyber Texas held a cyber education summer camp for 2nd through 5th grade students in Uvalde. The event was well received by the community and feedback has urged Cyber Texas to begin planning for a second event.
