As the leading advocate for the San Antonio business community, we are informing Chamber and community members of the City of San Antonio’s proposed Energy Benchmarking Program. The proposed Program, which is expected to go before the San Antonio City Council as an ordinance sometime this Fall for action, will eventually mandate that all building owners disclose energy use information for all buildings, beginning with those buildings that are 50,000 sq. ft. or larger, via the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) online Energy Star Portfolio Manager database system.

This proposed Energy Benchmarking Program has stemmed from the City of San Antonio’s mitigation strategies for the Climate and Action Adaptation Plan. In 2017, San Antonio City Council passed a resolution in support of the Paris Climate Agreement, and in 2019, San Antonio City Council approved the Climate Action Adaptation Plan (CAAP) with the goal of the City becoming carbon neutral by 2050. Business building energy savings is the stated goal of the proposed Energy Benchmarking Program.

The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce invites you to a meeting to discuss the concerns and impacts of this proposed Energy Benchmarking Program Ordinance on the business community.

The stakeholder meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 9:00am-10:30am at the San Antonio Chamber’s North Business Center, 1100 NW Loop 410, Suite 109, San Antonio, TX, 78213. We stand ready to continue to provide additional information on this proposed ordinance, and we look forward to your meaningful contributions to this dialogue and effort.
