On Thursday, the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Council hosted CENTRO’s economic development director, Sarah Esserlieu Khalil, who shared a sneak preview of their Downtown Tomorrow plan. Joined by new CENTRO board chair, Trish DeBerry, Sara provided a preview to Tuesday’s State of Downtown address by sharing key components of the Downtown Tomorrow plan and the way forward. Council Chair Kevin Matula, Director of Government Affairs & Public Policy at the Zachry Group, guided discussion that centered on key aspects of the plan and the challenges downtown faces in a post-COVID environment.
Moving forward from the plan’s formal announcement on Tuesday, May 16, CENTRO will be forming implementation committees in each of their five key elements: Clean, Safe and Resilient; Mobility; Resident Life; Economic Prosperity; and Arts, Culture, and Entertainment. The organization will be looking for dedicated volunteers who have the skills, knowledge, and love of downtown to see the plan through. The lofty goals envisioned in the plan will only be successful with key members of the community on the implementation committees who can help make the plan a reality. You do not need to be a CENTRO member to join a committee. If you are interested, contact Jeff Fair, Chamber VP of Cybersecurity and Economic Development.
