As Cybersecurity Awareness Month ends, the Greater San Antonio Chamber has been working to increase awareness on cybersecurity resiliency for small businesses within the scope of government services like smart infrastructure investment. The Council’s Advocacy and Legislative Training Focus Team has conducted a series of tabletop exercises and training seminars for local elected officials and public leaders, to visualize and walk through the reality of a cybersecurity attack. The Council’s Small Business Focus Team put together a small business handout that provides small businesses with three immediate takeaways:
- Know what’s connected to your network and how you’re currently protected.
- View security awareness as an asset, not a “fix all.”
- Embrace MFA and other security controls.
During the Chamber’s Cyber Horizons event on October 4th, subject matter experts explained the challenges posed by an ever-changing threat environment and how industry leaders are beginning to implement cutting edge technologies, like use of AI, to mitigate these threats increase operation efficiencies.
A topic that is repeatedly discussed during the Chamber’s Cybersecurity Council meetings is the need for all members of an organization to abide by and practice cyber safe techniques, from CEOs to part-time employees and interns. A cybersecurity threat can emerge from a multitude of sources and it’s crucial that all employees understand the risks involved and are cognizant of suspicious activity.
The Greater San Antonio Chamber Cybersecurity Council will continue working to ensure business owners and employees are educated on basic practices to stay cyber safe.
