The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Council convened their latest meeting in conjunction with the Chamber’s Infrastructure Committee. Chairs Kevin Matula and Art Reinhardt hosted Vic Boyer, CEO of the San Antonio Mobility Coalition, for an in-depth conversation about where our community is when it comes to transportation projects. Vic provided the joint session an overview of transportation efforts during the last several legislative sessions and how San Antonio has fared.

Following Vic’s presentation, the discussion of projects and requirements ranged from the South Texas triangle to San Antonio proper and included the San Antonio-Austin megaregion. The key take away is that San Antonio has done well over the last several state legislative sessions. The issues, however, are that projects are largely locked-in over the next ten years, offering limited flexibility to deal with the explosive population growth of the region. Furthermore, additional local projects fall much lower on the Texas Department of Transportation priority list than have before and will require concerted advocacy efforts to get more San Antonio projects over the finish line.
