The inaugural cohort of The Greater San Antonio Chamber’s Executive Connections: San Antonio program recently visited Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center for a mission briefing and behind-the-scenes tour showcasing the innovation and efficiency of military health care.
During the visit, Brig. Gen. Gwendolyn Foster, Commander of the 59th Medical Wing, provided an overview of the facility’s operations and its role in caring for service members and their families across Joint Base San Antonio. Participants toured the center’s operating rooms, emergency department and pharmacy, gaining firsthand insight into the advanced systems and coordination that power military medical services. The visit was made possible through the collaboration of leadership and staff from the 59th Medical Wing and partner organizations.
Following the tour, the cohort took part in a simulated medical exercise from the VAPOR Trails program presented by Will Gissendanner of The Geneva Foundation. The exercise demonstrated how cutting-edge research and training are strengthening battlefield medicine and operational readiness. The Geneva Foundation supports U.S. Department of Defense priorities by advancing military-unique medical research that protects the health, readiness and capabilities of service members and the communities they serve.
Through the experience, participants witnessed innovation in action and gained a deeper understanding of the collaboration required to deliver world-class care in mission-critical environments.
The Greater Chamber created Executive Connections: San Antonio to provide curated experiences for newly relocated or recently promoted executives transitioning into leadership roles in San Antonio. Participants gain a broad orientation to the community, an understanding of its unique opportunities and challenges, and access to the relationships needed to succeed.
