The skies over Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA)—Randolph were busier than usual May 2-3, as the nation’s top aerial demonstration teams entertained crowds of spectators during the Great Texas Airshow.

With the theme “Let Freedom Roar: Honoring 250 Years,” the show honored the service and sacrifice of U.S. service members and veterans, while showcasing the precision, power, and excellence of military aviation. The Greater San Antonio Chamber continued its longstanding tradition of strengthening JBSA’s connection to the community by supporting the VIP Pavilion, fueled by the generosity of chamber members and community partners.

“The airshow is a very impactful and meaningful celebration of our great nation and a tribute to our service members and veterans who protect the freedoms we all enjoy as Americans,” said Jeff Webster, Greater San Antonio Chamber President & CEO. “It is an honor to partner with JBSA to highlight the important role they play in our nation’s defense and enhance their connection to our community.”

This year’s airshow featured military and civilian performances, static aircraft displays, and STEM activities. The top draw, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds thrilled spectators with their precision flying, tight formations, and supersonic maneuvers, including their signature diamond formation.

The U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team conducted high-altitude flag jumps and precision landings. To honor the history of World War II, the “Tora! Tora! Tora!” team recreated the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, complete with pyrotechnics, smoke, and explosions. And there were demonstrations by the F-22 Raptor, KC-46 Pegasus, and C-17 Globemaster III.

Webster recognized the JBSA command team, including Brig. Gen. Randy Oakland, Brian Hoffman, Col. Patrick Miller and Chief Master Sgt. Lance Power, for their leadership, along with Great Texas Airshow Director Lt. Col. Gina Schneider and her team. The partners that collaborated on the VIP Pavilion include: the City of Cibolo Economic Development, Bexar County Precinct 3 Commissioner Grant Moody, the City of San Antonio Military and Veteran Affairs Department, Silver Eagle Beverages and Black Tie Affairs Catering.

JBSA is the largest joint base in the Department of Defense and a cornerstone of the region’s economy. The Greater San Antonio Chamber’s participation in the airshow reflects its longstanding commitment to the military-business partnership that defines San Antonio.
