We are thrilled to invite you to join our Chamber Staff in celebrating the 1 Year Anniversary of the Maverick, Powered by Placemakr.

 

The Maverick, originally built in 1922, was an office building until the 1970s when downtown commercial real estate declined as suburban malls opened. The building was vacant throughout the 1980s and early 1990s when the City funded its conversion into an apartment building. Then, in 2014, it was purchased by AREA Real Estate and Lake/Flato Architects and renovated into market rate workforce apartments. In 2024, The Maverick was converted to a hotel-style property with furnished units and flexible rental terms for people wanting to stay for as little as one night to as long as one year. Placemakr’s model combines apartment living — think furniture, kitchens or kitchenettes, and laundry facilities — with hospitality services such as cleaning, on-site support staff and free WiFi to offer a “turnkey experience,”. We are looking forward to celebrate our one year anniversary in one of the staples of San Antonio’s downtown skyline!
