Since 1970, the Chamber has organized Celebrate America's Military (CAM) as an annual tribute to our military. The over two-week celebration held during the first few weeks of November features more than a dozen events, proudly presented with community partners, making it the largest event of its kind nationwide. This year boasts some exciting new events, organized by your Chamber and sponsored by our generous Military Supporters, like USAA, Silver Eagle and Walmart. On Tuesday, October 30th, we will kick-off the festivities with a Prayer Breakfast to honor Military Chaplains. This event will bring together Active Duty Chaplains of all faiths with their retired counterparts, along with community leaders representing the wide variety of faith backgrounds in order to honor the role of the Military Chaplain in our Armed Forces. On Wednesday, October 31st, from 11 am to 2 pm, join us for free lunch and entertainment at our “CAM Tip-Off”, presented by The Boeing Company and hosted at Morgan’s Wonderland. This unique event celebrates the spirit and resiliency of those wounded in military service and of civilians who also face daunting physical challenges – but who all demonstrate the undying spirit to overcome….and succeed. This will be a fun and exciting exhibition wheelchair basketball game involving disabled veterans from ParaSports and participants in the Morgan’s Wonderland STRAPS (South Texas Regional Adaptive and Paralympic Sports) program. Playing alongside these athletes will be representatives of the local business community and our valued CAM partnering organizations. Another exciting new event will be a Reception to Honor 300 Years of Military Tradition in San Antonio. This informal networking reception scheduled for Monday, November 5th, will bring together the old and the new, the roots of military missions in San Antonio in a living history format. This will be a great way to meet and talk with local historians and military history lovers. Finally, the signature event of CAM is our Spirit of America Dinner to be held on Wednesday, November 7th. This event offers great dining and networking among service members from all of our Armed Forces and community members in a rousing patriotic backdrop. Our inspirational address will be provided by Chef Robert Irvine and proceeds from this event will go to the Robert Irvine Foundation: For our Heroes.
