We are less than 60 days away from one of the largest community fly-ins to Washington, D.C. Reserve your space now to be a part of what has been described as a model event. For 40 years, the Chamber has led a group of community and business leaders to Washington to advocate for the needs of city. Our trip will be co-led by Kathy Garcia, VP of Government Relations, Regulatory Affairs and Public Policy for CPS Energy, and Juan Antonio Flores, Executive Vice President of Government Affairs at Port San Antonio. The three days of meetings with legislators, diplomats, and public policy leaders will have a focus on innovation and how it affects San Antonio. In 2018, we had more than 170 participants assist in successfully securing:
  • $10 million to replace the aging air traffic control tower at Kelly Field,
  • $1.5 million for Mitchell Lake improvements, and
  • $15 million for reimbursements to Bexar County for Mission Reach Ecosystem Restoration and Recreation Project
These achievements—along with many others—are a direct result of the collaborative efforts of our participants. While registration is always open, we encourage you to make arrangements before the holidays since our trip begins unofficially on Super Bowl Sunday and officially on Monday, February 4, 2019. The last day to make changes without penalty is January 10, 2019. Information is available on the SA to DC website. If you are interested in attending or have questions, contact Belinda Garza Hartwig, Vice President of Economic Development, at 210-229-2199 or bhartwig@sachamber.org. Our next planning meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 10 at 4:15 PM at the SAWS Customer Service Tower (2800 US 281 N). White papers outlining the legislative priorities will be worked on at this time, in addition to determining which legislators and government staff we should be meeting with. Mark your calendars for final meetings: Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 4:15 PM (again at SAWS Tower) Wednesday, January 23, 2019; TIME: 3:30 – 5:00 PM (location TBD)
