The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce invites you to a luncheon conversation and panel discussion featuring Alamo Colleges Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores on Tuesday, October 15. In his first year as Chancellor, Dr. Mike Flores engaged business, student, staff, faculty, and community leaders to gather input for the future of the Community College District. The results of his efforts have placed Alamo Colleges at the forefront of our city’s quest to lift educational attainment and prepare students to enter the workforce in the high-demand industries that drive San Antonio’s economic prosperity. Dr. Flores will share highlights from his inaugural year and then join a panel discussion with Dr. Lloyd Verstuyft, superintendent of Southwest Independent School District; Romanita Matta-Barrera, executive director of SA Works; and Dale Sampson, alternate student trustee from Palo Alto College. Chamber President and CEO, Richard Perez, will moderate the conversation that will include an opportunity for audience members to submit questions. Education, workforce development, and economic competitiveness are intrinsically linked. The Alamo College District has a total enrollment of more than 100,000 among its five colleges located across Bexar County. According to a recent San Antonio Express News article, the three-year graduation rate increased to nearly 30 percent, well above the 22 percent state average for community colleges. Alamo Colleges’ success is our community’s success. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear directly from Dr. Flores about his approach to partnerships and how community colleges are a key to economic and social mobility and our “moonshot” to end poverty in the Greater San Antonio region.
