Last week, the Chamber team welcomed Andrew Gorman as the new Director of Special Events. Andrew will oversee our events, which includes scheduling, planning, and executing more than 100 special events each year, with a focus on enhancing the program work of the Chamber and creating memorable moments for our members and guests.
Andrew graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory and worked as a professional musical theatre performer for most of his adult life. His previous work experience has taken him far and wide, from New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and six different continents during his nine years as a cruise ship entertainer. His favorite port city he has ever visited is Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada.
Andrew has worked in world class venues, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York’s Museum of Natural History, the U.S. Open, and his personal favorite event: CNN’s Honoring Our Heroes — a televised event recognizing individuals striving for good across the globe.
Before joining the Chamber, Andrew worked as SeaWorld’s Director of Events, blending his career of performance and event planning with his love of animals and wildlife conservation. Andrew’s love for animals also extends to the dry land variety, as he fosters rescue dogs.
Andrew describes himself as an avid foodie and an elite Yelp user, which allows him to find hidden gems in restaurants and coffee shops. As an Eagle Scout, he is passionate about nature and still remains close with the Boys Scouts of America as an organization. He enjoys singing (especially now that he doesn’t have to do it for work) and is a regular fan of live musical theatre.
His personal goal is to make someone laugh at least once every day. “Making people laugh really does give me satisfaction, because people laugh when they are happy,” he said. “It’s one of the many reasons I enjoyed performing and my work at SeaWorld.”
As for his current work at the Chamber, Andrew hopes to form relationships with the business community in San Antonio and make friends through quality events many have come to expect of him and the San Antonio Chamber.
