In the wake of COVID-19, there is one area of our community that could use your help in the most furry and fun way. While we are practicing responsible social distancing, Animal Care officers are still on patrol, addressing public safety calls in what is typically the busiest season of the year. When we connected with the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS), we learned that adoptions have slowed during the current pandemic. The good news right now is that intake has also slowed, but there are spring litters on the way.
Animal Care Services is still open, and they have modified the adoption and foster process to support social distancing guidelines in a few clever ways. One notable and innovative change is the use of a free application that allows you to schedule appointments and then communicates wait times and check ins to limit the number of people in close proximity to each other. They have also recreated their adoptions center in a larger annex building to give the public and ACS staff additional room for completing applications and placement interviews. Pets are even brought to your car when it’s time to head to their forever homes. This is ‘curbside service’ on a whole new level! If that is not intriguing enough, they have reduced pricing for adoptions to $25 for dogs and $5 cats!
Let’s face it, we are spending more time at home than ever before, and this is the perfect time to add a little furry joy to your household. We encourage to you visit www.sanantonio.gov/animal-care/home and adopt or foster today!
