Join your Chamber in celebrating the University of Texas at San Antonio’s (UTSA) achievement of Tier 1 status with its new Carnegie R1 Classification on Thursday, June 23, 2022. This luncheon event will help the community better understand this prestigious designation, shared by the top 4% of research universities in the nation, that has elevated UTSA – and San Antonio – to be an educational destination on the national level. UTSA has been working toward this achievement for many years and has made deliberate efforts to grow its doctoral programs and significantly boost funding dedicated to research. The business community applauds this effort and wants to help champion the potential economic development this designation can bring.

The celebratory event will include a keynote from UTSA’s President Taylor Eighmy followed by a panel discussion comprised of:

  • Richard Perez (President & CEO, San Antonio Chamber of Commerce)
  • Taylor Eighmy, (President, UTSA)
  • Jenna Saucedo-Herrera (President & CEO, greater: SATX)
  • Randy Smith (Co-Founder & CEO, Weston Urban)

During the event, attendees will gain a greater understanding of what the Tier 1 status designation means for the future of UTSA, San Antonio’s business community, and our region’s economy. Additionally, President Eighmy will share how this major milestone will fuel the university’s Downtown Campus expansion and capacity to prepare the workforce of the future for our city.
